Texas

I have been a professional fly fishing guide for over 15 years. My guiding career started while attending college in San Marcos, Texas. I was working at HEB in the Customer Service department with my good friend Marcus Rodriguez. During our down time, Marcus and I would map out fishing trips on the many different rivers that run through the Texas Hill Country. As we explored more and more rivers and showed people the photographs of the fish we were catching, we were asked if we would guide. In 1997, we started a guide service now known as The Guides of Texas.

Alaska

After graduating from college, my guiding career led me to unexplored parts of Alaska and remote areas of Patagonia in South America. In Alaska, I worked with EPIC Angling & Adventure at both of their remote safari camps. The job was to fly into these remote, uninhabited areas in a small bush plane, set up a base camp, and have clients from all over the world fly in to fish with us. We used boats, planes and helicopters to transport food, people and gear. We'd hike many miles in a day to explore and fish the best waters all while carrying a heavy shotgun to ward off any bear encounters. Over the years working with EPIC, I learned many valuable life lessons. My experiences in Alaska have helped mold me into the man I am today.

Patagonia

South America was another wonderful life changing experience. In Chile, I worked at Rio Palena lodge and learned very quickly, the awesome powers of a raging river. Before working here, I had never rowed a drift boat, but I figured I'd have to learn somehow. With a little direction and confidence building from the other guides, I quickly got the hang of it. We had a lot of fun in Chile. We floated the many different rivers in the area including the famous Futaleufu. We also ran multiple day float trips down the more scenic wild rivers where we fished and camped along the way. During these trips we would sometimes encouter native gauchos that were just happy to see another person. They would invite us into their home for a snack and some mate (tea). I never dreamed I'd ever get to see this beautiful part of the world. I'm thankful I had the opportunity.
